ON THE ROCK
So the theme this year for LTC is "Stand Firm". When I first hear "Stand Firm" I think of a rock. I mean what is more firm and everlasting than a rock. As a result I have decided to theme my LTC website on rocks. Anyway, so we've established that a rock is firm but how can I apply "Stand Firm" to my life. What exactly does "Stand Firm" mean? As I think about this, I remeber the passage from Matthew 7 where Jesus tells of the wise and foolish builders:
Mattew 7:24-29
"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."
When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law."
Perhaps the most important part of any building is it's foundation, in this passage Jesus calls us to build our lives on a foundation of rock and not sand. If we are to "Stand Firm" we need to first make sure that we are standing on a base of rock.
